These are just some of the highlights from this season!
Golf News
It seems optimistic right now to be talking about green grass and playing golf, but the spring preparations of the course are about to begin. In mid to late March, we will begin the process of removing the snow from the greens. The equipment has been serviced and is ready for the season. Season passes are available for purchase for the upcoming golf season; the application is available online if you need that form. If you are thinking about a tournament or small outing, you can call 970-627-8936 to book that event now.
General Recreation News
The after school and Friday programs continue to gain in popularity. We have recently done a couple of cross country ski activities with the Friday group and there was fun for everyone. We will be doing this activity at least one more time this season, come and join the fun! During the winter months, we try to keep the activities closer to home due to weather and travel concerns. Some of the future planned events include; trips to the Denver Zoo, Museum of Nature and Science, the Butterfly Pavilion, Rockies games, Children’s Museum and many other adventures. All dates and activities will be decided and published as we get closer to the summer calendar.
We are looking forward to an exciting summer and will have programs available for youth ages 5 to 10 and specialized camps for ages 8 to 12 including an art camp, an outoor-themed camp and a tennis camp. For more information on these programs check the General Recreation page of this site.
Employment
We are looking for individuals for most of the summer positions, if you are interested in any of the following; please fill out an application soon. Applications are available at the District office.
- Pro-Shop
- Kitchen
- Golf Maintenance
- Recreation Assistants
2007 Bond Project Update
This past year was busy around the District with project work. The logging that has been going for what seems like forever has now been almost completed. The process of the tree removal which left the problem of the disposal of the slash, reached a point of closure this fall with the grinding of the piles created over the summer and fall months. There are still the removal of the chip piles and one small area by the clubhouse; however this is now at a point that we can say we are focused on restoration. The District dedicated $740,500 of the bond to mitigate the “beetle kill” trees and create a fire line, this is approximately 6% more than budgeted.
Another large scale project was the installation of a new irrigation system at the golf course. The project began the first week of May and reached contractor completion the last week of September. The scope of work involved replacement of the mainline from Columbine Lake, the demolition and reconstruction of the pump house and all associated fittings, and the installation of the actual water lines and sprinklers. The original budget for this project was estimated at $1.1 million, the end result with the numerous changes and challenges, the project closed just over $1.3 million. The factor that was a true unknown was the pump house with all of the permits, fees and electrical upgrade requirements that put the project over budget, as installation and materials were at or below budget numbers.
A new maintenance building was built this year to provide adequate repair and storage facilities of the District equipment. The building was available for use in mid-October and completion came in under budget. The estimate was at $550,000 and with only some exterior concrete work to be completed this spring, the project is at $410,200.
The bond also included the replacement and acquisition of equipment for the golf course and ski touring center. With only a few items remaining to be purchased, this area will be under budget also. The estimated amount was set at $270,000 and currently the District has spent $226,000.
The tennis courts were in need of resurfacing and this work was accomplished in by the end of June. Some volunteers removed and replaced the practice backboards in the fall, to make this facility a nice amenity for all to use.
In 2008, there still remain some items that the District is committed to work on, one of which is the current club house. We have hired an architect to help with the future of the building and what is the best course of action to update the facility. Currently we are waiting for an engineer to evaluate the structural integrity of the building and all of the infrastructure components. We will be working to improve our trail system with hopes that we can create summer availability along with added ski trails. |
